Speaking From the Heart

With over a decade of experience discovering cures for the most common health diseases and disorders, Dr. Joyonna Gamble-George is an internationally acclaimed scientist. Her passion for science stems from her participation in a summer research program in the bioinorganic chemistry field that was sponsored by NASA during high school. She has traveled the globe sharing her research approaches to medicine with diverse audiences, including Nobel Prize winners. Previously, she worked as a subject matter expert for the National Institutes of Health, where she was an advisor for doctors, psychologists, nurses, and other scientists across the United States that conduct research on chronic heart and lung diseases and mental health in people living with HIV. Dr. Gamble-George studied at New York University and Yale University how interactions between an individual’s genes and their social environment, including social connectedness, contribute to mental health problems and other health risk behaviors using brain imaging and behavioral science methods. She also studied climate change and its impacts on indigenous communities using machine learning engineering.

Dr. Gamble-George received over 20 awards for her leadership, philanthropy, and dedication to science while fostering diversity. Given her considerable accomplishments, she was selected for the AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador program, which brings together women in different STEM careers to serve as high profile role models for middle school girls. She recently received the National Institutes of Health Director’s Award for her dedication and advancement of women’s health research, workforce development, and health education. During her doctoral studies at Vanderbilt University, she co-founded SciX, a biotech company searching for methods to combat brain disorders and other health issues. She currently advises other startups, including a Web3 social enterprise company that is developing a mobile, gamified goal achievement platform rooted in behavioral science and serves as their Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Her business acumen was honored with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award.

Breaking Barriers & Disrupting Narratives: My STE[A]M Story

Dr. Gamble-George educates and inspires people across the lifespan (from childhood to adolescence to adulthood) about her career path to become a STEM professional, while integrating the arts into her journey. She provides real-life examples and best practices that can increase one's motivation and capacity to pursue a STE[A]M career.

She helps people strategize on how to explore STE[A]M careers, develop a STE[A]M identity, and land their dream STE[A]M job. She also collaborates with educators and organizations to develop STE[A]M programs and curriculums that are centered around a particular subject or discipline, the learner's needs, interests, and goals, or problem.

*STE[A]M is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

Know Thyself: Practicing Self Love, Self Awareness Advocacy, & Self Reflection

Dr. Gamble-George teaches people how to engage in introspection, and gain perspective on what really matters to them. By doing this, people can better understand themselves (their values, thoughts, behaviors, motivations, desires, needs, and rights), especially in group or organizational settings.

This helps people to change their actions to improve their life so they can be assertive, know their rights, negotiate, and speak up for themselves or a cause they are passionate about. This also helps people to appreciate themselves such that they take actions to support their physical, psychological, and spiritual growth.

Making Moves to Healthier Lifestyles & Wellness

Are you fulfilled in life? What makes you feel happy, whole, and complete? Dr. Gamble-George helps people harmoniously integrate their work ethic into their lifestyle to achieve continued growth and balance in 12 dimensions of wellness - spiritual, physical, emotional, developmental, career (vocational), cognitive (including intellectual), environmental, creative, cultural, financial, digital, and social.

She also teaches people how to become aware of, become more informed about, acknowledge, evaluate, and solve healthcare gaps and health disparities facing their communities using holistic approaches through mixed-methods. This helps people and their communities achieve one's sense of wellness and quality of life that is equitable and just for all.

Thinking Beyond Boundaries for Innovation and Business Development, Scalability, and Sustainability

Dr. Gamble-George emphasizes how creativity is an essential ingredient in problem-solving and innovation. To do this, she educates people on how to identify the true nature of users’ problems, challenge assumptions, and form novel ideas that solve those problems in product and service design, research, and development using a holistic, mixed-methods approach to problem-solving.

She also provides tips on how to develop and scale a business for sustainable growth. Topics include, but are limited to, creating an executive presence, developing a business map, building a brand, connecting with customers and creating customer loyalty, effective delegation, finding money to invest for growth, creating S.M.A.R.T. goals, investing in technology for automation, finding and retaining staff or strategically outsourcing or partnering with others, scaling product development, and securing sales through market penetration.

From Bench to Bedside to Curbside to Home: Shaping Health and STE[A]M Policy for the Greater Good

Dr. Gamble-George informs people on how to influence health and STE[A]M policy, including policies that emphasize discovery-based science from researchers' bench (bench), to a clinical trial bedside (bedside), to physician care delivered to patients (curbside), to educational research in patients' communities (home). She also educates people on how to effectively communicate with decision makers, including members of Congress and their staff, about policy changes that affect them and their communities to ensure that their voices are heard.

She provides guidance on how to bring about policy change in organizations and communities. She then educates people on how to identify potential policy options that can address health-related and STE[A]M-related concerns and then compare those options to choose the most effective, efficient, and feasible one.

Shift Your Mindset: Tips for Women & POC in STEM and Difficult Spaces and their Allies

Dr. Gamble-George provides strategies to help women and people of color (POC) navigate different personal and professional environments that challenge their existence (the how-tos on survival, thriving, and leadership in STEM and difficult spaces).

She also trains their allies to serve as sponsors or advocates, especially in spaces that women and POC are underrepresented or not invited to and that make decisions for a group or organization. By doing this, allies can build a positive group or organizational culture that questions, rejects, and combats exclusionary ideology and works against oppression. They can as well help women and POC build their network, enhance their reputation by speaking highly of them, acquire new opportunities for development and leadership, and be publicly recognized so they can rise in position and influence.

Life Literacy: Building and Managing Multi-Generational Knowledge, Resources, and Wealth

Dr. Gamble-George helps people rethink of wealth as a multi-dimensional state of being that includes spiritual, physical, and intellectual health, environmental, social, and cultural aspects as well as diversity in kinds of capital. She emphasizes that wealth building and management encompasses leveraging knowledge through people's talents, expertise, and experience. To do this, she equips people with the essential tools and strategies to acquire this knowledge base and resources. This helps people visualize and execute their plan for creating a family legacy of abundance that is passed from one generation to the next.

Keeping it Real: Leverage Your Soft Skills to Effectively Communicate Your Science or Story

Dr. Gamble-George helps STEM professionals identify scientific results that an audience needs to know, from all of the scientific results that it would be nice to know. She provides best practices with examples on how to convey those results and then evaluate the success of those attempts, as well as how to create trustworthy communication channels with different types of audiences.

She also teaches people how to connect with their audience and capture an audience's attention through storytelling. This helps people visualize themselves within your story such that they can understand others and themselves, and gives purpose to change or action.

Breaking Through: Finding Yourself, Your Passion, & Your Life Purpose

Who are you?

What's important to you? What are you most passionate about?

What is your life purpose?

Dr. Gamble-George provides strategies on how to embrace and learn from one's journey of finding meaning in life, challenges, or obstacles to figure out one's life purpose. She teaches people how to discover and use their unique skills, gifts, and talents to make a positive impact in society and help create the society they want to see locally and globally.
